Location
Services

In an increasingly connected world, more products and devices know where they are at any given time. Phones are among the most common products with location-based capabilities, but many cars, wireless routers, and even televisions know their location! Some people are uncomfortable with the idea of a smartphone knowing their location, and, while there are reasons to be cautious, there are also many benefits that come from allowing your phone to share its location.

What exactly are Location Services?

A Location Service is a feature that requires location information to operate. Think of a navigation system in a car. A map can give you directions from point A to point Z, but a car's navigation system can tell you when and where to turn. To be able to do this, the navigation system needs to know your approximate location. This is an example of a Location Service.

How do Location Services work?

Location Services determine a location using a variety of technologies inside a smartphone. These include GPS (Global Positioning System), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Cellular signals.
